Given Amazon's highly anticipated release of the Fallout TV series last month, it is no surprise that it accrued a substantial 65 million views within the first 16 days. This popularity surge had a noticeable ripple effect on the video game fraternity, with a significant uptick in the number of active players and game sales. Circana's April 2024 video game sales report revealed the impact of this phenomenon in the United States.
The transformative leap of Fallout 4 from 87th to a commendable fifth position was highlighted by data analyst and executive director Matt Piscatella. Similarly, Fallout 76 jumped from 159th position to a staggering 8th place over the same period. On Circana’s player engagement scale, these titles became the fourth and fifth most actively used on Steam, trailing only behind Helldivers 2, Counter-Strike 2, and Content Warning.
While Fallout 4 recently underwent a Next-Gen Update (which came with a patch to fix several issues), Fallout 76 is gearing up for the unveiling of Skyline Valley. Furthermore, whispers have surfaced about Microsoft “drawing up plans” to release the next central game “sooner rather than later.” Bethesda's Todd Howard has hinted at two unannounced projects within the franchise, though their release might be some time off. Meanwhile, stay tuned for more updates.
